Details

This educational series will train care staff in the proper preparation and administration of medications. Quality of care, risk management and regulatory compliance implications loom large. And the ever-widening variety of medications, growing number of medications per resident and different routes of administration, make ensuring that care staff are sufficiently trained a critical challenge.

The series consists of two parts, each containing three modules. The modules average 15-30 minutes in length to accommodate the limited time available for staff training. Testing is provided for each module with 3.5 CE credits available upon completion of cumulative testing. The series features professional narration, was filmed in a nursing facility, includes still shots and slides to reinforce important points and provides handouts for post-viewing reference.

Part One details step-by-step guidance for the administration of:

  • Oral medications (liquids and solids)
  • Eye medications, inhalers and patches
  • Medications administered via G-tubes

Part Two addresses:

  • Preparing and Administering Injectable Medications in the Long Term Care Setting
  • Transcription, Taking Verbal Orders and Medication Documentation Review
  • Overcoming the Challenges of Medication Administration
